Chitral,
Pakistan, June 3, 2024 — Students and faculty
from the departments of English and Sociology, participated in an intensive
five-day training session on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management, held
from May 27th to 31st, 2024, followed by a two-day training on the GBV in
Emergencies Framework from June 1st to 2nd, 2024. The training sessions were
collaboratively organized by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority
(PDMA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Representing
the University of Chitral were Dr. Habib Ullah Nawab from the Department of
Sociology, Dr. Kifayat Ullah, Ms. Nazia Aman, and Zakira Sultana from the
Department of English. Their participation underscores the university's
commitment to addressing and managing gender-based violence in both routine and
emergency situations.
The
training provided participants with crucial insights and skills essential for
effective GBV case management. The sessions covered a comprehensive range of
topics, including:
- Fundamentals of GBV
case management
- Best practices for
handling GBV cases with sensitivity and confidentiality
- Effective
coordination and collaboration with stakeholders
- Implementation of
GBV case management guidelines and protocols
The
subsequent two-day training focused on the GBV in Emergencies Framework,
equipping attendees with the knowledge necessary to respond swiftly and
efficiently to GBV incidents in emergency contexts. Key areas of focus
included:
- Understanding
the unique challenges and dynamics of GBV in emergencies
- Developing
and implementing GBV response strategies during disasters and crises
- Strengthening
community-based approaches to prevent and respond to GBV
The
