The University of Chitral recently organized a joint session under the Climate-Centric Hackathon in partnership with Cirrus Pakistan. This collaborative event aimed to raise awareness about Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) and associated climatic issues in the region. Mr. Hafiz Ullah, the focal person for climate studies, opened the session by outlining its objectives and goals. Following his introduction, Mr. Deedar Ahmed Dad, project coordinator at Cirrus Pakistan, delivered a concise presentation on GLOF and the related risks affecting Chitral and northern Pakistan. The session saw active participation from students across various departments of the University of Chitral, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights. Dr. Sanaullah, Head of the Department of Sociology graced the event as a chief guest. In his closing remarks, he emphasized the importance of sustainable utilization of Chitral's natural resources. He highlighted the crucial role of students as future leaders in combating global challenges like climate change. He also highlighted the significance of engaging young minds in climate mitigation efforts and enhancing their understanding of environmental issues critical to their region.
