• The University of Chitral, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), organized a debate on glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) mitigation and adaptation measures. The event brought together experts from various fields to share their insights and discuss strategies for addressing the growing threat of GLOFs in the region.

    Dr. Sanullah, Head of the Sociology Department and Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Chitral, delivered a comprehensive lecture on glacial mitigation. He emphasized the importance of understanding the social and cultural context of communities affected by GLOFs. Dr. Sanullah's lecture provided a valuable framework for considering the human dimensions of GLOF risk management.

    Mr. Hafizullah, a lecturer in the Department of Botany, presented a lecture on ecosystem-based glacial adaptation. He highlighted the crucial role that ecosystems play in regulating water flows and mitigating the impacts of GLOFs. Mr. Hafizullah's lecture showcased the importance of integrating ecological principles into GLOF adaptation strategies.

    Representatives from the EPA, including Mr. Afsar Khan, Deputy Director, Fayaz Ahmed, GIS Specialist, and Kausar, participated in the program, sharing their expertise and experiences in addressing GLOF-related challenges.
