The Department of English at the University of Chitral, in collaboration with Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak and the Department of English Language & Literature, University of Chitral, organized a two-day National Conference on Literature, Culture, and Climate (NCLCC-24) from July 2-3, 2024. This significant event was supported by DOSTI Welfare Organisation, CECOS University, Peshawar, Higher Education Department KP, Directorate of Youth Affairs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Department of Wildlife Chitral, Government Girls Degree College Chitral, Government Degree College Chitral, Government College of Management Sciences Chitral, and Pakistan Academy of Letters.
The conference was formally inaugurated on July 2, 2024, by Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam Khalis, Conference Chair, with a warm welcome addressed by Dr. Kifayatullah, Co-Organizer and Head of the English Department at the University of Chitral. Dr. Syed Hanif Rasool, Head of the Department of English at Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak and the spearhead of NCLCC, highlighted the resolution, scope, and objectives of the conference.
Special guests included Prof. Dr. Najeeba Arif, Chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Letters, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naseer ud Din, Vice Chancellor of KKKUK, who served as the Chief Guest. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Khalid Khan, setting an insightful tone for the event.
Over the course of the conference, there were 12 parallel sessions featuring around 80 research paper presentations and eight extended sessions with 21-panel talks. The event concluded with a Policy Roundtable, strategizing future directions at the intersection of literature, culture, and climate.
The conference saw active participation from scholars, researchers, and students from across the country, including representatives from Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak, University of Chitral, CECOS University Peshawar, University of Peshawar, Edwardes College, Islamia College Peshawar, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) Peshawar, Gomal University D.I. Khan, Qurtaba University Peshawar, National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad, International Islamic University Islamabad, Rawalpindi Women University, Forman Christian College Lahore, The University of Lahore, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, and many more.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Sanaullah, Head of the Sociology Department and the Acting Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude to all participants and presented souvenirs to the distinguished guests. The conference marked a significant step forward in fostering academic discourse on the critical issues of literature, culture, and climate change.
