The Inaugural ceremony of the Child Protection Unit, Lower Chitral Was
held on Monday, October 30, 2023. The purpose of the Child Protection Unit was
to protect children from exploitation, abuse, and neglect and promote the
well-being of Children across District Chitral. The speakers from UNICEF, the
Provincial Child Protection Unit, and Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral highlighted
the importance of the issue and stressed that the protection of children is
required for the future of society and it is our collective responsibility to
work to create a safer environment for children that is conducive for the
physical, social and psychological growth. They also shared the basic figures
and facts related to the child protection issue and shed light on the efforts
of the provincial government towards child protection in the province.
Dr. Sana Ullah, HOD Sociology Department, University of Chitral explained
the concept of child protection in detail. He said that children are our
valuable resource and hope for the future and we should develop systems for
connecting children and protecting them from abuse. In his speech, he also
explained the role of the family in child protection and stressed that the
family being a fundamental institution shall shoulder the responsibility of
child protection and avoid child abuse, discrimination, neglect, and
exploitation within the home. He also highlighted the role of the state in
protecting children by implementing the existing national and international
laws and said that civil society may focus on connecting children with the
service delivery system and step forward to create awareness about the issue.
At last, he asserted that it is our collective responsibility to work for the
protection of children in this globalized world.
At the end of the event ribbon-cutting ceremony was also held and the
Child Protection Unit was formally inaugurated in the presence of Chief Guest
Mr. Muhammad Farooq, Additional Secretary Social Welfare Department, Deputy
Commissioner Lower Chitral, DPO Lower Chitral the worthy guests/participants
