The University of Chitral celebrated
International Mountain Day with fervor and commitment to environmental
conservation in collaboration with the GLOF II project. Mr. Minhas Uddin, Additional Secretary of the
Climate Change, Forestry, Environment, and Wildlife Department was the Chief
Guest of the program.
Dr. Sahib, the Acting Vice Chancellor of
the University, presided over the program, which witnessed the active
participation of key figures such as Mr. Abdul Majeed, District Forest Officer
Chitral; Mr. Muhammad Hayat Shah, District Monitoring Officer; and Yousuf
Farhad, Subdivisional Forest Officer. Students and staff from Girls Degree
College, along with representatives from the Glof II project, added to the
diverse audience.
The program comprised insightful
presentations and speeches that underscored the significance of mountain
ecosystems. Shabdaraz Group of Adventure Tourism enhanced the event with a
captivating display of mountaineering equipment, engaging the audience in the
spirit of adventure.
Mr.
Minhas Uddin, in his role as Chief Guest, planted saplings on the university
lawn, symbolizing a commitment to environmental sustainability. As a token of
appreciation, shields, and certificates were distributed among the distinguished
guests, acknowledging their contributions to the cause.
This celebration not only highlighted the
importance of International Mountain Day but also showcased a collective
dedication to preserving our precious mountain ecosystems for future
generations.
