The event was
organized by the Department of Botany in collaboration with the Forest
Department of Chitral. The Chief Guest of the program was Professor Dr. Zahir
Shah, the Vice Chancellor University of Chitral while the Guest of honor was
Mr.Muhammad Atif Jalib, Assistant Commissioner of Chitral. The Vice-Chancellor
said that Pakistan is worst affected by climate change and the recent
devastating flood is an example. Climate change can only be controlled through
afforestation. event. Sub Divisional forest officer Mr. Umair Nawaz gave a
detailed presentation about types of forest in Pakistan and specifically in
Chitral. He said that the forest department of Chitral is engaged in ecosystem
restoration and afforestation with successful output. Divisional forest officer
Chitral Mr. Asif Ali Shah appreciated the efforts of the university of Chitral
in creating awareness among students about the importance of forests. Stage
secretary Mr. Hafiz Ullah highlighted that the recent flood has inundated the
biodiversity of Chitral. Human input is needed to bring back the lost
biodiversity. Dr. Nadeem Hassan, Additional Director of Administration thanked
the guests for their time. At the end of the program plant distribution
ceremony was held on the lawn of the University of Chitral. Plant saplings were
also planted by the Chief Guest and Guest of honor on the lawn of the
University of Chitral.
