Green
Day Celebration was observed at the University of Chitral on 12/08/2024. The
event was organized by the Department of Botany University of Chitral in
collaboration with the Forest Department of Chitral. Dr. Sana Ullah, Head of
the Department of Sociology and Pro-vice Chancellor was the event's Chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral, Mr. Mohsin Iqbal joined the event as a guest
of honor. Experts from the forest, Agriculture, and soil conservation
department also joined the event. The chief guest emphasized that carbon
emission, global warming, and climate change can only be mitigated through the plantation
and that is why the University of Chitral celebrates Green Day twice a year, in
early spring and during Monsoon. Mr. Abdul Majeed, the DFO, asserted that the forest
department of Chitral is engaged in ecosystem restoration and afforestation
with successful output. Sub-Divisional Forest Officer Chitral Mr. Yousuf Farhad
appreciated the efforts of the University of Chitral to manage such a
successful event. Guest of honor, Deputy Commissioner Chitral emphasized the
importance of awareness in afforestation efforts. Focal Person Mr. Hafiz Ullah highlighted
that the recent flood has inundated the biodiversity of Chitral. Human input is
needed to bring back the lost forest cover. Chief Guest and all guests planted
Deodar saplings on the university premises. Saplings of Deodar were also
distributed among the students and university employees.
